Each coin is meticulously struck by The Royal Australian Mint from 1/5oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. The Royal Australian Mint will release no more than 1,000 of the 2013 Kangaroo At Sunset 1/5oz. The coin's reverse features a lone kangaroo crossing the desert plains at sunset. The sky and the kangaroo's shadow are both mirror-finished, while the kangaroo, the sun and the landscape are frosted-finished.

Also included on the reverse is the inscription' 1/5 oz. 9999 Au', as well as the stylised initials' WP' for artist Wojciech Pietranik. The obverse of the coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 25 DOLLARS and 2013 year-date.
