This spectacular 2oz gold coin features a pink diamond unearthed from Rio Tintos Argyle Diamond Mine in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. This diamond was specifically selected to correspond with the red kangaroo design. One of natures finest treasures, pink diamonds are among the rarest and most valuable objects on Earth. The Perth Mints red kangaroo design was introduced as part of the Australian Nugget gold coin program as the new theme for the 1989 Proof Issue.

The artistry was designed by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG, goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality and skillfully handset with a genuine Argyle Pink Diamond.

Each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on its obverse.
